SNORT Updated

News, over the weekend, of the latest release of SNORT, now revved to version 2.8.5.1. SNORT is our IPS product of choice in the Open Source arena – developed by SourceFire, and one of the easiest and most robust intrusion detection systems to use (never discount the ease of use parameter!). More information, including linkage and an exceedingly concise snippet of the original post from HelpNet Security appears after the jump.
via HelpNet Security: “Snort 2.8.5.1 released“
Snort is an open source network intrusion prevention system, capable of performing real-time traffic analysis and packet logging on IP networks. It can perform protocol analysis, content searching/matching and can be used to detect a variety of attacks and probes, such as buffer overflows, stealth port scans, CGI attacks, SMB probes, OS fingerprinting attempts, and much more.
Snort 2.8.5 fixes the following issues.
- Fixed syslog output when running on Windows.
- Fixed potential segfault when printing IPv6 packets using the -v option. Thanks to Laurent Gaffie for reporting this issue.
- Fixed segfault when additional policies were added during a configuration reload.
